Yu-Gi-Oh! made its TCG debut in North America in 2002 with Legend of Blue-Eyes White Dragon. The 126-card flagship set featured popular monsters from the ongoing Yu-Gi-Oh! anime and manga, such as the titular Blue-Eyes White Dragon, the Forbidden One cards, Dark Magician, and more. Additionally, Legend of Blue-Eyes White Dragon introduced players to the core mechanics of the Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG, including features and concepts such as fusing monsters, summoning, and spell cards.

North American, Korean, and Asian-English releases of the Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG all offer limited 1st Edition print runs of cards. Every booster pack initially included cards with a small “1st Edition” line of text below the bottom left-hand corner of the illustration box. These cards are printed in limited quantities when a set first releases. Afterwards, they are replaced by Unlimited Edition cards, which lack the 1st Edition text.
Since 1st Edition cards are produced in limited quantities, they are significantly rarer than their Unlimited counterparts. Because of this, they often fetch higher prices on the secondary market, and many enthusiasts attempt to collect full sets of 1st Edition cards. The ultimate prize for any Yu-Gi-Oh! collector is a complete 1st Edition set of Legend of Blue-Eyes White Dragon. Our featured collector this month, darkshouseofcards, is well on their way to completing the full 1st Edition set. Their LOB 1st Edition set is 34% complete and includes several “Top Pops,” including cards graded CGC Pristine 10 and CGC Gem Mint 10.

I’ve been collecting since it first came out. It was the Yu-Gi-Oh! anime that got me hooked.
Dark Magician is my favorite monster, so that’s my favorite card from this set. A close second would be Red-Eyes Black Dragon as I love the art.

Blue-Eyes White Dragon, as I’m still hunting it down. But for the cards I already have, I would say it’s the one card graded CGC Perfect 10 that I have for this set (Drooling Lizard). I’m always looking for CGC Pristine 10s for the commons, but the CGC Perfect 10s are a nice bonus since it’s a retired grade.
Collect the cards and sets you like. Not for investing but because it brings you joy.
It’s perfect for keeping your collection organized and displayed. I sometimes will use it to see what I’m missing before purchasing a new card.
